Perhaps better known as one half of acclaimed act and 2018 Scottish Album of the Year shortlist nominee Best Girl Athlete with daughter Katie, Charley Buchan has an extensive and impressive body of work behind him along with numerous collaborations and contributions to others work as well as establishing Aberdeen-based independent music label Fitlike Records.

Previous album CS Buchan & Friends garnered wide praise for its eclectic range of guest vocal contributors and received national radio airplay on the BBC Radio 6 Music Cerys Matthews Show, Album of the Week on the BBC Radio Scotland Roddy Hart Show as well as featuring on Laura Barton’s BBC Radio 4 series, Notes from a Musical Island.

As with previous releases, Buchan experiments and works with a diverse set of musicians. Here, we hear him alongside some young and incredibly talented Nashville country players, giving this newest collection of songs a unique touch of Americana whilst retaining its classic Scottish pop vernacular. In particular ‘Cosmic Cowboy’, Daniel Donato lends his trademark country guitar licks to the track ‘Going Down Together’.

The dynamic variability that characterises CS Buchan’s music conveys a weird sense of familiarity and surprise. Like the arrangement of short stories, ‘Where Have All My Friends Gone?’ dissolves the boundaries of an album, placing listeners inside a collection of songs that drip of lament and surreal gestures.
